The SSPA 9.35-9.85-500 from Aethercomm is a Solid-State Power Amplifier (SSPA) that operates from 9.35 to 9.85 GHz. It delivers a peak output power of 500 W (57 dBm) with a small signal of 50 dB and a composite power-added efficiency from 20 to 25%. This SSPA has a duty cycle of up to 50%, a maximum pulse width of 500 µs and can be turned ON and OFF in less than 2.0 µs. It uses space-qualified GaN technology and has 2nd/3rd harmonics of less than -30 dBc. The amplifier is packaged in an enclosure that is optimized for high altitude operation along with high performance shock and vibration for LEO flight and other space applications. It requires a DC supply of 28 V.
The SSPA 9.35-9.85-500 has been designed to operate for up to 5 years in space. It includes standard features such as reverse polarity protection, output short and open circuit protection, and over/under voltage protection. It monitors and reports temperature along with many other health parameters. This SSPA is available in a housing that measures 14 x 10 x 6 inches with SMA-female input connector and WR90 waveguide output interface.
