The 8508093-1 from CAES is a High-Power Amplifier that is available in frequency options from VHF through the S-band. This ruggedized subassembly can be integrated into most aerospace or defense systems like unmanned aircraft, surface vessels, ground vehicles, missiles or space. The amplifier has a scalable design that can deliver over 1 kW of output power with 60 dB of gain.
The module contains a DC power converter, gain stages, the final power stage, control circuits and two chill plates. It utilizes custom GaN devices that can tolerate a wide range of load conditions. The final power stage consists of modular, Basic Power Amplifiers, which are combined via high-power combiner modules that allow the RF output power to be scaled up or down in order to meet specific ERP requirements and prime power constraints. It has a rugged design with MIL-STD-810G certification for airborne applications.
The final stage of this amplifier consists of the push-pull pairs and hybrid pairs to minimize in-band harmonics. It also suppresses out-of-band harmonics with a high-power low pass filter at the output port. The 8508093-1 includes over-temperature and over-drive protection circuits and also has forward and reverse power monitoring.
The 8508093-1 is available in an enclosure that measures 10.0 x 14.0 x 4.5 inches and is suitable for use in airborne electronic attacks, space-based high-power applications, ground-based communication jamming, and surface vessel information operations. The amplifier requires a DC supply of 270 V and consumes under 3 kW of power.
