The 2236 from Empower RF Systems is a Solid-State Power Amplifier System that operates from 2.8 to 3.5 GHz. It delivers a CW output power of more than 24 kW with a gain of more than 74 dB. The amplifier system comprises multi-drawer integrated subsystems which feature multiple high-power GaN on SiC devices that can be used to provide wide frequency response, high gain, high peak power, and low distortions. It can be scaled up in power by using (stacking) multiple building blocks (amplifiers). Each drawer is a full PA with an integrated single-phase power supply and liquid cooling. It features gain and phase control and each PA is fully hot-swappable in case of failure. The amplifier system has spurious levels of less than -60 dBc and 2nd order harmonics of -40 dBc.
The 2236 includes a built-in control and monitoring system, with protection functions that preserve maximum output availability and reliability. Remote management and diagnostics can be done via an Ethernet port. The system can be controlled remotely by a web browser, M2M (machine to machine interface), or locally by a panel computer. The control system runs an embedded OS (Linux) and has a built-in non-volatile memory for factory setup.
The 2236 is available as a multi-drawer system that measures 40U in height and 40” in depth with 2 x 19” racks. This amplifier system has N-type (female) input connectors and a WR-284 output interface. It requires a 3-phase AC supply from 180 to 260 V and consumes less than 100 kVA of power.
