The 2245 from Empower RF Systems is a Solid-State Power Amplifier System that operates from 2 to 4 GHz. It can deliver a CW output power of 5 kW with a power gain of more than 68 dB. This amplifier system comprises of multi-drawer integrated liquid-cooled subsystems which feature multiple high-power GaN-on-SiC devices that can be used to provide wide frequency response, high gain, high peak power, and low distortions.
The 2245 can be scaled up in power by using (stacking) multiple building blocks (amplifiers) with each amplifier “building block” having a full gain PA with an integrated single-phase power supply and fully hot-swappable in case of failure. It includes built-in control and monitoring systems, with protection functions that preserve maximum output availability and reliability. The amplifier system provides exceptional performance, long-term reliability, and high efficiency by employing advanced broadband RF matching networks and combining techniques, EMI/RFI filters, and all qualified components. It is suitable for CW, AM, FM, Pulse, and some linear applications (other modulation types are also available on request).
The amplifier supports remote management and diagnostics via an Ethernet port and the system can be controlled remotely by a web browser or M2M (machine-to-machine interface) or locally by a panel computer. The control system runs an embedded OS (Linux) and has a built-in non-volatile memory for factory setup. It is available in a rackmount enclosure that measures 40U in height and 40” in depth with an N-Type (female) input connector and WR-200 waveguide interface. This SSPA requires a 3-phase AC supply from 180 to 260 V and consumes less than 30 kVA of power.
