The HMC7586 from Analog Devices is a GaAs I/Q Downconverter MMIC that converts input frequencies from 71 to 76 GHz to output frequencies from DC to 10 GHz. It has an LO frequency range from 11.83 to 14.33 GHz, provides a conversion gain of 12.5 dB and an image rejection of 28 dBc. This E-Band mixer uses a low noise amplifier followed by an image rejection mixer that is driven by a 6x LO multiplier. The image rejection mixer eliminates the need for a filter following the low-noise amplifier. Differential I and Q mixer outputs are provided for direct conversion applications and alternatively, the outputs can be combined using an external 90° hybrid and two external 180° hybrids for single-sideband applications.
The HMC7586 has an LO drive range from 2 to 8 dBm, a 6x LO leakage of -40 dBm and an LO return loss of 20 dB. It has a noise figure of 5 dB, an amplitude balance of ±0.4 dB and a phase balance of ±4°. This downconverter is available as a 40-pad bare die chip that measures 3.599 x 2.199 x 0.05 and is ideal for E-band communication systems, high-capacity wireless backhauls, and test & measurement applications.
