The AN/DPX-7 from BAE Systems is an Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) Transponder that is designed to identify and track aircraft, ships, and other ground forces. It incorporates an ADS-B passive-receive capability to support situational awareness and sense-and-avoid applications. This transponder provides Mode 5, Mode S, and ADS-B functionality in a reduced-size unit at a lower cost than current military transponders, making it suitable for size, weight, and power (SWaP) constraint applications. It requires a DC supply of 28 V (complies with IAW MIL-STD-704A-F).
The AN/DPX-7 has features that are required for future global military and civil air traffic control requirements. It extensively uses the built-in programming technology to ensure long service life through software upgrades, without causing risk and cost overheads associated with hardware modifications. This IFF transponder has an interchangeable platform interface module (PIM) that allows for further customization or drop-in replacement of existing transponders. It supports multiple interface buses such as MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, Ethernet, RS-485, and RS-232, and also includes an optional remote control unit for use on non-data bused aircraft.
This transponder delivers a transmit power of 500 W (~57 dBm). It integrates front panel BIT activation and LRU/WRA to provide status indications for rapid verifications of operational readiness. It is available in an enclosure that measures 5.375 x 5.375 x 4.000 inches and is ideal for fixed-wing, rotary-wing, and shipboard applications.
