The ATWINC3400 from Microchip Technology is an IEEE® 802.11 b/g/n (Wi-Fi) + Bluetooth 5 (LE) Network Controller Module for IoT applications. It consists of an integrated power amplifier, low noise amplifier, transmit/receive switch (for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth), and a Power Management Unit (PMU). This module utilizes highly optimized IEEE 802.11 Bluetooth coexistence protocols and provides a Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) to the host controller. It is the ideal add-on to existing microcontroller (MCU) solutions, offering Wi-Fi and BLE network capabilities through a SPI-to-Wi-Fi interface.
The ATWINC3400 features an on-chip processor to offload the host MCU and an integrated flash memory for system software with a built-in coexistence mechanism for concurrent Wi-Fi and BLE functionality. The module’s most advanced mode is the 1 x 1 802.11n mode with a single spatial stream that enables a PHY rate of up to 72 Mbps in a 2.4 GHz ISM band.
The ATWINC3400 is available in a package that measures 22.4 x 14.7 mm with an option for integrated chip antenna or u.FL connector for an external antenna. It supports security protocols such as WPA/WPA2 Personal, WPA2 Enterprise (firmware v. 1.31 or later), TLS, and SSL. This module is suitable for low power and high-performance mobile applications.
