The IRIS-W10 Series from u-blox are are small, stand-alone, 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and Thread wireless microcontroller unit (MCU) modules. They are certified for global use and offer improved network efficiency, latency, range, and power consumption compared to earlier Wi-Fi generations. They also utilize Bluetooth Low Energy 5.3 and Thread mesh networking protocol to support a wide range of applications. These multi-radio modules also use Matter application protocol over Thread, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet, allowing interoperability with various products in the market.
They deliver a data rate of 115 Mbps (Wi-Fi) and 2 Mbps (Bluetooth PHY). These modules include a powerful CPI configuration that embeds an ARM Cortex-M33 microcontroller unit (MCU), a 260 MHz clock oscillator, a 1.2 MB SRAM, and an 8 MB flash memory. They include an internal PCB antenna for high performance and also support a range of external antennas to reduce time, cost, and effort for customers integrating Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy, and Thread into their products. They require a DC supply of 3.3 V.
These modules can be controlled via various interfaces such as UART, USB, SPI, I2C, GPIO, etc. They include hardware security functions such as secure boot with hardware root of trust, ARM TrustZone processor security technology, Edgelock hardware crypto engine, encrypted flash, and protection of the debug port. The modules can secure wireless communication paths with WPA2/WPA3 authentication, Wi-Fi enterprise security, TLS encryption, HTTPS, and Bluetooth LE secure connection pairing.
The IRIS-W10 Series modules are available in surface-mount packages that measure 14.6 x 20.9 x 2.1 mm and are ideal for industrial automation, smart buildings and homes, smart city, medical and healthcare devices, telematics, and point-of-sales applications.
