The NANO-S100 from u-blox is a RPMA (Random Phase Multiple Access) module for Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWA) IoT applications. RPMA is a low-power wide-area channel access method used exclusively with machine-to-machine (M2M) communication for IoT applications, such as asset tracking and smart metering. This module has a sensitivity of –133 dBm and a secured design that meets NERC CIP and industry mandated critical infrastructure requirements. It is ideal to service multiple applications across urban, suburban, below ground, and indoor environments, all on a single network. The module consumes only 50 µW of power in the sleep mode and provides more than 10 years of battery life. It has a separate FOTA broadcast channel that can rapidly provide critical updates to millions of devices at the same time. The end-to-end secure design ensures secure and confidential data transport, as well as secure authenticated device firmware upgrades.
With a 177 dB link budget, RPMA devices have unprecedented range, even underground or indoors, and because RPMA utilizes the globally available 2.4 GHz industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) radio band, devices using it can work worldwide, providing scale and cost benefits. The NANO-S100 from u-box has extended temperature range and will allow for simple integration of positioning services.
