The RFoF-18G-L0-Mini from RFOptic is an RF-over-Fiber (RFoF) Module that operates from 0.1 to 18 GHz. This module has a high spurious free dynamic range making it ideal for handling multiple signals of very different power levels. The Tx unit of this module uses an optical transmitter which converts wideband RF signals to an optical signal, and the Rx unit, converts the optical signal back to the RF signal. It has an SFDR (spurious free dynamic range) of 113 dB/Hz, a noise figure of 24 dB, and a phase noise of -120 dBc/Hz (at 10 kHz offset). The module requires a DC supply of 5 V, consumes 2.5 W of power for the Tx unit and 0.5 W of power for the Rx unit.
This high SFDR RFoF module simplifies signal conditioning requirements to avoid signal saturation and subsequent consequences such as power level adjustment. High SFDR is essential is particularly useful in antenna testing, radar, or communications system testing due to typical large amplitude ratios between main and side lobes or close and distant targets. The same applies to DF/ELINT systems, which have to handle strong jammers concurrent with weak signals of interest. The RFoF-18G-L0-Mini is available in an enclosure that measures 75 x 154 x 33 mm (standard) with SMA RF connectors and FC/APC optical connector. It is also available in 1U generic enclosure (4 units), 1U removable panel enclosure (2/4 units), and outdoor (2/4 units) configurations.
The RFoF-18G-L0-Mini is ideal for civil communication, distributed antennas, satellite communications, radio telescopes, telemetry, defense systems, and telecommunication (antenna remote control and long RF links via fiber) applications. This RFoF module has options for customized RF gain, end-to-end built-in diagnostics, and extended low-frequency bandwidth.
