The ADMV1017 from Analog Devices is a Silicon Germanium (SiGe) based Microwave Block Up/Down Converter with an RF Frequency range from 24 to 29.5 GHz. The up-converter offers two modes of frequency translation which include a direct conversion to RF from differential baseband (I/Q) input signals and single-sideband (SSB) up-conversion from complex intermediate frequency (IF) inputs. The down-converter offers two modes of conversion which includes direct Quadrature demodulation to differential I/Q output signals and an image rejection down-conversion to a single-ended complex IF output carrier frequency.
This up/down converter allows the differential baseband I/Q input path to be disabled, thereby directly feeding modulated single-ended complex IF signals to the IF path and up-converting to the RF frequency band. It is designed to perform an efficient up-conversion by utilizing a serial port interface (SPI) to adjust the Quadrature phase and reject unwanted sideband components better than 25 dBc. The ADMV1017 incorporates a square law detector to allow monitoring of the power levels at the mixer inputs and closed-loop controlling of the RF digital step attenuator via an external automatic gain control (AGC) loop.
The ADMV1017 offers rapid TDD switching using external pins to provide fast switching times. It is available in a thermally-enhanced Land Grid Array (LGA) package that measures 9 x 8 mm and is ideal for 5G, point-to-point microwave radios, instrumentation, automatic test equipment (ATE), radar, and electronic warfare applications.
