The R&S®SMC100A from Rohde & Schwarz is a Signal Generator with a frequency range from 9 kHz to 1.1 GHz/3.2 GHz. It supports AM/FM/PM/pulse modulation functions and has an internal modulation and pulse generator to supply the required modulation signals. This signal generator has an SSB phase noise of -105 dBc (at 20 kHz offset, 1 GHz frequency) and non-harmonics of better than -60 dBc. It provides an output power of +17 dBm which enables measurements on DUTs that require a high level for the local oscillators. This signal generator can generate both CW and analog-modulated test signals and provides the user with test signals required to carry out measurements such as intermodulation, gain, or distortion. The low SSB phase noise, wideband noise and excellent non-harmonic suppression make this signal generator suitable for applications requiring spectrally pure signals.
The R&S®SMC100A ensures minimal total cost of ownership with low initial cost and low service costs. It has a modular design (RF board, mainboard, front unit and power supply) that enables the rapid replacement of modules. This signal generator has an integrated software diagnostics routine that identifies and displays the defective module. In case of instrument malfunction, repairs can be carried out by a certified Rohde & Schwarz service center or users can rectify the fault on their own by replacing defective components with pre-calibrated replacement modules.
The R&S®SMC100A is available in an enclosure with a width of ½ × 19" and two rack units high and two instruments can be installed side-by-side in a single 19" rack. It includes a color display and keypads on the front panel along with USB and Ethernet interfaces and can be remotely controlled. Due to its small dimensions and lightweight design, this signal generator is suitable for field applications or training and education environments, EMC applications and service and maintenance labs.
