The XRF16 from Avnet is a 16x16 Direct-RF Sampling Module with 5 GHz Analog Bandwidth. It is designed for integration into deployed RF systems demanding a small footprint, low power, and real-time processing. The XRF16 features the Xilinx Zynq® UltraScale+™ RFSoC Gen 2, with 16 RF-ADC and 16 RF-DAC channels. The 12 Bit ADCs support up to 2.220 GSPS and the 14-bit DACs support up to 6.554 GSPS.
The module has an integrated Quad-core Arm Cortex-A53 processing subsystem with 2 GB DDR4 programmable logic, 32 GB eMMC persistent storage, and 128 MB QSPI boot storage.
The XRF16 can be controlled via GbE, PCIe 1/2, SATA, and USB 2/3 interfaces. It has a Quad Mesh firmware interface that can sustain 20 Gbps data exchange with four peers concurrently, facilitating tiling in high-performance real-time systems. The module has ultra-low jitter programmable sampling clocks and an external or onboard 10 MHz reference clock that enables phase-coherent synchronous sampling across all converters & multiple boards. It has an industrial-rated temperature monitor and has optional air & conduction cooling.
The XRF16 is available in a module that measures 4 x 5 inches and requires a DC supply of 5.5 to 16 V. It is ideal for phased array RADAR, 5G massive MIMO, hybrid beamforming, signal detection & jamming, medical imaging, and multi-channel RF instrumentation applications.
