The FALCON III RF-7850A-UA from L3Harris Technologies is a Multi-Channel Networking Radio that operates from 30 to 512 MHz (narrowband) and 225 to 512 MHz (wideband). It is designed for unmanned aircraft deployment and delivers advanced intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities for improved situational awareness and decision making. This radio utilizes L3Harris’ combat-proven Falcon III technology and provides close combat support along with joint operations with ground troops. It offers a minimal size, weight, and power (SWaP) profile, making it an ideal unmanned aircraft radio for operations at the tactical edge.
This low-SWaP radio can act as an interoperable airborne relay node, enabling it to take advantage of tactical VHF/UHF networks to provide range extension of secure air-to-air and air-to-ground communications. It supports a variety of modes and waveforms such as AM/FM analog voice, Quicklook 1A, 2, 3, and Quicklook-wide, TDMA networking, M-TNW, an SATURN, which results in greater flexibility. This radio accepts either an internal or external GPS input for synchronization and incorporates multiple encryption schemes such as AES-128/256, L3Harris proprietary Citadel, and customer algorithm modification.
On the Tx side, it delivers an output power of up to 10 W while on the Rx side, it has a sensitivity of -116 dBm (FM) and provides an IF rejection of 80 dB. This aircraft radio requires a DC supply from 10 to 13 V. It can be controlled using USB 2.0, Ethernet, ASCII, and Web UI interfaces. This RF-7850A-UA is available in an enclosure that measures 3.30 x 5.30 x 1.75 inches and has SSMA (female) connectors.
