Microstrip Impedance Calculator
Microstrip line is a widely used transmission line and for the appropriate transmission its characteristic impedance has to be calculated while using it in RF design & circuits. This calculator can calculate the impedance and propagation delay of any microstrip by taking its respective height, width, thickness & dielectric constant.

Microstrip impedance calculator
The microstrip impedance represents the characteristic impedance of the microstrip line, which is the uniform impedance provided by the uniform cross-sectional dimensions along the microstrip (flat copper conductor) length; to prevent signal reflection.
This online microstrip impedance calculator calculates the characteristic impedance of the microstrip (Ω), W/H ratio, and effective dielectric constant (εe) by entering the value of dielectric material relative permittivity (εr), the width of the copper trace (W), and dielectric height (H).
What is Microstrip Impedance?
Microstrip is a type of transmission line to carry microwave-frequency signals, and it can be made up of a flat copper conductor suspended over a ground plane with a dielectric between them. The microstrip impedance represents the characteristic impedance of the microstrip line. The characteristic impedance of the microstrip line means that is the uniform impedance provided by the uniform cross-sectional dimensions along the microstrip (flat copper conductor) length; to prevent signal reflection.
How is Microstrip Impedance calculated?
The microstripp impedance is calculated by using the following formula:
Where,
W = Width of the copper trace (flat copper conductor)
H= Distance between signal trace and ground plane/Dielectric substrate height
εr = Relative permittivity/dielectric constant of the dielectric material.
εe = Effective dielectric constant
Zo = Characteristic impedance of the microstrip in ohms (Ω).
