An oven controlled crystal oscillator or OCXO is a crystal oscillator that provides a stable frequency at very high temperatures. These are even more stable than TCXO's at high temperatures. OCXO's are usually placed in an oven or enclosure, that is kept at a higher temperature than the temperature at which the devices is expected to operate. This ensure that changes in temperature does not effect the operation of the crystal, therby making it very stable. This additional stability does come with tradeoffs, as to maintain stability at higher temperatures, the OCXO does drain more power than a TCXO which would be the other option for high stability.
