Predicting the performance of an RF system is and will always be limited to the accuracy of the models used in simulations. Certainly metrics such as cascaded noise figure, 1dB compression, and gain of an RF system built from commercial off the shelf components (COTS) can be achieved with a degree of accuracy using spread sheets. Spread sheets, however, typically do not accommodate second order effects and it is also a very time consuming task to accommodate measurement data into it.
