SiGe or CMOS: Choosing the Right Technology When Performance is the Priority

With the increasing adoption of millimeter wave RF communications and near terabit-speed optical communications, silicon germanium (SiGe) technologies are in greater demand today. What strengths does SiGe offer above RF CMOS or SOI technologies? Simon Prutton runs the SiGe Product Line within the RF Business Unit at GlobalFoundries. He has worked previously in a variety of roles and at several high-performance analog semiconductor companies, including National Semiconductor, Micrel and Intersil. He holds a BSc in Electronic & Electrical Engineering from the University of Birmingham, England.
