Attenuators are well-known elec-tronic circuits, widely used for signal level control in a variety of applications. One par-ticular application is a front-end device for microwave test and measurement instru-ments such as frequency synthesizers, spec-trum and network analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc. In these applications, the device is pri- marily used to extend the dynamic range of the instruments by reducing and optimizing signal levels to detectors and mixers. Key fig-ures of merit for this application include high attenuation range, low intermodulation prod-ucts, low insertion loss, and flat response over a wide frequency range.
