Base Station Antennas – Reliable Wind Load Calculation

In general, the wind loading of antennas is determined based on the standard EN 1991-1-4. This European standard corresponds to the German standard DIN 1055-4. Because of wind loading tests performed by an independent institute in 2016, in order to determine the data sheet values, Kathrein uses a combination of wind tunnel test results as well as an approved adaption of the form factor within the scope of the standard. The indicated values are the frontal and the maximum wind load of the antenna. Due to the latest determination methods, the wind load values are decreased. However, these values are still determined in accordance with the standard EN 1991-1-4. The mechanical design of the antennas remains unaffected.
