5kW, X-band, GaN Solid-state Transmitters for Next-Generation Naval Radar Applications
GaN Solid-state technology for various radar (maritime, weather, and air traffic control radar) applications are of increasing interest due to its multiple advantageous features such as system controllability, reduced size, and power requirements, and improved system reliability. This white paper will examine the trends and challenges present with current radar systems and the development of RFHIC’s 5kW, GaN solid-state transmitter, operating at 9.0-10 GHz (with 500 MHz bandwidth). It will address the Transmitter’s performance in comparison with current tube-based technology, the key advantages of RFHIC’s GaN solid-state technology for next-generation radar systems, and the upgrades of existing TWT/klystrons radar transmitters.
