Cellular Technology Evolution for IoT Applications in the 5G Era

This paper touches upon the progression from 4G LTE to 5G New Radio (NR), current and coming standards, and the importance of 5G NR RedCap for IoT applications.The cellular industry is in a transition period spanning two generations of cellular technology: 4G LTE and 5G New Radio (NR).
Although much effort has been made to develop the next generation of cellular standards, the deployment process is happening relatively slowly. For this reason,and much like prior transitions (3G to 4G for instance), it is expected that for some years, the two technologies will coexist.
