SOLiD, a global provider of cellular in-building mobile coverage solutions, has announced its participation in a collaborative initiative to support multi-vendor testing of Open RAN network architectures. SOLiD's 5G C-Band Open RAN Radio Units (O-RUs) have been integrated into the VIAVI Automated Lab-as-a-Service for Open RAN (VALOR™), a U.S. National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA)-funded program.
SOLiD's C-Band O-RUs enhance the flexibility, efficiency, and scalability of neutral-host 5G networks, particularly for in-building solutions. The VALOR lab will conduct impartial interoperability testing of these radios with various virtual and physical 5G baseband components from other vendors, including Fujitsu’s O-RAN virtualized Central Unit/Distributed Unit (CU/DU). This testing collaboration is crucial in demonstrating the potential of Open RAN architectures to foster innovation and efficiency in both public and private 5G networks.
Scott Deweese, President of SOLiD Americas, emphasized the importance of industry cooperation in validating multi-vendor interoperability. "We are proud to support the VALOR testing initiative, which plays a pivotal role in enabling agile, reliable, and cost-effective 5G networks," he said. Deweese also noted that this collaboration sets the stage for future 6G developments.
Masaki Taniguchi, Senior VP at Fujitsu, echoed these sentiments, underscoring the need for impartial testing to optimize 5G network performance and advance Open RAN deployment.
