New Vehicle Tracking Sensor Uses Sequans LTE-M/NB-IoT Chipset

Sequans Communications and IoT intelligent services provider, Connected Holdings, have released a vehicle-tracking unit, designed for the transportation industry called the Arrow M.

Arrow M solutions use an ultra-reliable LTE-enabled sensor package designed for monitoring and tracking of trailers and containers, vehicle recovery, trailer management, lot management and other asset utilization applications. They require no programming skills to use and come with easy-to-use software for configuration and reporting. Reports can be created periodically or in response to events, such as motion, speed, harsh acceleration or braking, geo-fence violations, temperature, altitude, and much more.

The Arrow M is powered by Sequans’ Monarch Platform, a highly optimized LTE-M/NB-IoT chip for IoT applications. Sequans and Connected Holdings have been collaborating closely on the development, testing, and integration of Monarch into the new Arrow M, which is now available to trucking and freight companies across the United States.

It is one of the very first available production-ready transportation tracking solutions with LTE-M connectivity inside, according to Sequans, and utilizing the ultra-low power consumption of Sequans Monarch LTE-M solution means Arrow M enabled products do not have to be connected to power and can be placed anywhere on a container or chassis, offering new flexibility and freedom to supply chain managers.

Sequans’ Monarch technology allows the new Arrow M enabled product family to run for multiple years on an embedded battery. Also, Monarch’s support for a +23 dBm power amplifier, which allows it to reach MCL (maximum coupling loss) of 164 dB, ensures reliable, cost-effective service all across the USA, even when the Arrow M enabled solution is placed deep inside a trailer or container.

Sequans’ Monarch Platform is a highly optimized LTE-M/NB-IoT chipset. It provides full support for power saving mode (PSM) and extended discontinuous reception (eDRX) to enable the long battery life needed IoT applications. It supports transmit power of 23 dBm and provides the enhanced coverage needed for deep-indoor and/or remote deployments. Monarch chip consists of the baseband, RF, power management, and RAM, all integrated into a single, tiny 6.5 x 8.5 mm package. In addition, the chip supports advanced features such as programmable RF filtering for global band support in a Single-SKU, and proprietary dynamic power management technology enabling rock bottom low power consumption of 1 micro amp for battery life of at least 3 years. Sequans’ Monarch is certified by leading operators in the United States.

The Arrow M solution is on display at Mobile World Congress Americas 2018, taking place from September 12-14 in Los Angeles.
