Spectrum is a very scarce and valuable resource, and that is especially true today with C-Band spectrum. This mid-band spectrum is a tremendous asset that will be a critical part of a smart multi-band network deployment strategy. Use of this spectrum provides carriers with the ability to deploy significantly better coverage than using high-band millimeter wave spectrum, and faster speeds and lower latency than low-band spectrum. It is an excellent hybrid spectrum approach.
This whitepaper analyzes the outcomes from the recent C-Band spectrum auction by looking outside the traditional industry lens of potential ARPU (average revenue per user) that most analysts are using to address the critical question of whether or not the C-Band license fees are justifiable in the long run, and whether US subscribers will be willing to pay a premium for 5G services to help the carriers monetize their investment.
