Wideband Coaxial TEM High-Power Loop Coupler

Couplers are one of the widely used components for high-power radar applications where a directive sample is extracted from the output signal of an RF source. In general, for a loop coupler, the signal goes from the Input port (main arm) to the secondary arm of the coupler (secondary arm), while the output port is terminated with a matched load. For couplers used in high-power radar usually require special considerations for the designers. Today’s whitepaper will cover an innovative newly developed wideband compact coaxial TEM Loop coupler providing an impedance bandwidth of 120% from the 2-8 GHz range. The input port of the coupler has an interface of SC(m), and the output interface is SC(f), where the coupled port has an SMA(f) interface. The coaxial loop coupler is capable of handling 10 kW peak power covering the entire operating bandwidth. The overall loop coupler provides an excellent coupling level ranging from -40±1.5 dB from 2-8 GHz range. The input and output return loss provides better than 17 dB matching with a directivity beyond 17 dB over the entire operating range.
