LTE Cat-5 (LTE Category 5) is an LTE user equipment (UE) category that defines the performance and specifications – such as data rate, power, bandwidth, etc. – of the LTE Cat 5 UEs. LTE Cat 5 UEs support a downlink data rate of 299.6 Mbit/s and an uplink data rate of 75.4 Mbit/s. They support 4x4 MIMO using multiple antennas at both the transmitter and receiver to provide higher data rates and better performance in wireless communication. These UEs support 4 layers for spatial multiplexing in downlink (DL) and 64-QAM in uplink (UL).
