Fiber Fed Signal Booster Supports up to 16 Remote Boosters

Bird, a leading provider of RF components, subsystems, test equipment, and services, has expanded its Signal Booster product line with the addition of fiber transport to the Bird SBII+ products. Bird can now provide the expected public safety grade reliability and coverage to a single large building or multiple buildings for first responders, public safety government agencies, and private system users all using a single donor antenna.

The SBII+ Booster family covers UHF, 700, and 800 Public Safety bands with dual-band versions available to cover both 700 MHz and 800 MHz bands and are fully certified to meet FCC and Industry Canada certifications as Class B boosters and provide exceptional spectral purity.

The 63A Series has an RF output of +32 dBm in high power mode with a maximum RF input power up to -20 dBm, a gain of up to 80 dB, operates over a temperature range of -30° C to +60° C, measures 24 x 27 x 14 in. weighs 117 lb., and operates from either +24 VDC or 90 to 240 VAC supplies. The rugged 63A Series Signal Boosters are housed in NEMA 4 type enclosures, making them an excellent choice for use in stadiums, airports, office buildings, hospitals, tunnels, and any place lacking adequate signal coverage.

Key Features of the Booster:

  • Supports up to 16 Remote Boosters to maximize coverage area.
  • The web browser user interface allows for local and network configuration.
  • Multiple bands as needed.
  • Complete set-up, monitoring, and control from the head-end.
  • Highly secure SNMP (v. 3.0) to send encrypted or in the clear system, status trap messages to an SNMP Manager.
  • Easily perform remote firmware updates.
  • Built-in oscillation management and detection with multiple user-configurable choices.
  • Onboard LED displays and remote OLC monitoring capability.
  • NFPA/IFC options include all the alarms and battery backup configuration options to comply with the standards.
  • Custom models available.

In addition to reducing the overall radio system noise, this fiber architecture greatly simplifies setup. Complete control options are orchestrated with any computer on an Ethernet network or virtually anywhere that Web access is available. Expanding an existing system to cover additional areas or buildings can be accomplished by adding remotes and running fiber to them or using existing fiber.
