Skyworks Solutions has announced that it is ramping production of front-end modules, wireless connectivity switches, power amplifiers, low noise amplifiers, and power management solutions for streaming media and smart TV applications supporting OEMs such as Roku, Google, Amazon and Samsung. Over-the-top (OTT) content provided through set top boxes is one of the fastest growing media segments as consumers migrate towards high-end streaming solutions across multiple devices. Skyworks' highly innovative products deliver best-in-class WiFi media performance and support ultra-high definition/4K resolution.
According to Barbara Kraus, Director of Research at Parks Associates, nearly 50 percent of video content that U.S. consumers watch on a television is on demand or time shifted. This is up from 38 percent in 2010, reflecting the rapidly changing market and move towards new digital media. In fact, a recent report from Pricewaterhouse Coopers states that OTT television streaming will grow to be a $10.1 billion segment in 2018, up from just $3.3 billion in 2013.
