Akoustis Technologies, an integrated device manufacturer (IDM) of patented bulk acoustic wave (BAW) high-band RF filters for mobile and other wireless applications, announced that it has completed development and shipped the second iteration of 5G mobile XBAW® filters to an RF module maker with production ramp planned in calendar 2023. Additionally, Akoustis received a development order for two new XBAW® filters from this customer for the Wi-Fi 6E access points.
Akoustis has shipped two versions of the 5G mobile filter to the customer, who intends to test, characterize, and then down select for volume production. This is expected to begin in mid-calendar 2023. The two new Wi-Fi 6E filters target the Wi-Fi access point market and are expected to be deployed in multiple end user devices using 2X2, 4X4 and other multi-user, multiple-in-multiple-out (MU-MIMO) architectures.
Dave Aichele, EVP of Business Development, stated, “Progress with this customer is re-accelerating as we get closer to the completion of our wafer-level packages that are being developed in our NY wafer fab.” Mr. Aichele, continued, “We now expect to deliver multiple filters for this customer across the 5G and Wi-Fi markets, and are pleased to see the relationship grow as we continue to deliver cutting-edge, custom solutions.”
Akoustis is currently ramping commercial production and is investing to achieve annual production capacity of approximately 500 million units. Akoustis is actively delivering volume production of its Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E tandem filter solutions, shipping multiple 5G small cell XBAW® filter solutions and delivering initial designs of its new 5G mobile filter solutions to multiple customers.
