Akoustis Starts Sampling its Next Generation Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 Filter Solutions

Akoustis Technologies, an integrated device manufacturer (IDM) of patented bulk acoustic wave (BAW) high-band RF filters for mobile and other wireless applications, announced that it has started sampling two new Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 filter solutions, covering the U-NII 1-3 and U-NII 5-8 bands of high-frequency, high-speed Wi-Fi. The filters are expected to ramp into production in the first half of calendar 2023.

The newly developed filter solutions are high-performance, ultra-wideband XBAW® RF filters are being produced in Akoustis’ New York manufacturing facility. The filters are designed to meet the stringent rejection requirements enabling coexistence with the U-NII 1-3 and U-NII 5-8 frequency bands. They will be offered as standard catalog products, targeting Wi-Fi 6E and emerging Wi-Fi 7 enterprise, carrier, and consumer Access Points (AP), available to all potential customers. The primary advantages over the Company’s prior generation U-NII 1-3 and U-NII 5-8 filter solutions include significantly smaller form factor and superior out-of-band rejection performance.

Jeff Shealy, founder and CEO of Akoustis, stated, “Akoustis continues to push the limits of BAW filtering in high-frequency Wi-Fi applications.” Mr. Shealy continued, “These new filter solutions offer what we believe is the best out-of-band rejection capability using our BAW technology yet, at a significantly reduced size given our new chip-scale packages that we are now manufacturing in our New York semiconductor chip fabrication facility.”

Akoustis is currently ramping commercial production and is investing to achieve annual production capacity of approximately 500 million units. Akoustis is actively delivering volume production of its Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E tandem filter solutions, shipping multiple 5G small cell XBAW® filter solutions and delivering initial designs of its new 5G mobile filter solutions to multiple customers.
