Epiq's ERA Spectrum Analyzing Software Tool Enables Fast Spectrum Monitoring from any Location

Epiq Solutions has introduced the Epiq RF Analyzer (ERA), an RF spectrum analyzing software tool that allows users to view and collect RF spectrum activity of the target environment from any location. ERA can transform any platform with a  Sidekiq™ radio card into a powerful RF analyzer. This tool has been designed to further expand the monitoring capabilities by supporting high scan rate of any type of signal while capturing every time and frequency component of the signal.

Key Features of the ERA Software Tool

Fast Sweep, Event Triggers, and Recording

ERA’s fast sweep speeds and advanced triggering capabilities allow tracking faint or short duration signals across time and frequency domains. ERA’s different recording capabilities can save signal data (either I/Q or visual), capturing spectrum history that shows not only the signals of interest, but also when they occurred. Historical events can be replayed from a file, ensuring forensic capture of even ‘fleeting’ data for rigorous analysis after the event.

Integration Ready

ERA can be used to transform any computing platform with an integrated Sidekiq radio card into a powerful RF spectrum analyzer. Some of the platforms may include PCs, embedded systems like Epiq’s Matchstiq, and other standard laptops and tablets. For systems and applications that lack an integrated screen for local monitoring, ERA can be operated remotely using virtually any web-enabled device.

Examples of Various Integrations

MatchStiq S10 + Web Browser

ERA software runs on an embedded Matchstiq platform. To configure ERA or monitor spectrum, one can use any device that has a modern web browser installed. The ERA user interface can be run remotely, even wirelessly, as long as it has a network connection to the S10. No VNC is necessary and no extra software to install. Matchstiq Z2 + Tablet and Web Browser

The Matchstiq Z2 integrates Epiq’s smallest RF transceiver + Linux computer, the Sidekiq Z2,  using a simple carrier card. Attached to a commercial tablet with its magnet-mount enclosure, the Matchstiq Z2 makes a conveniently transportable spectrum analyzer. Sidekiq + Laptop

With a Sidekiq installed, many off-the-shelf laptops can instantly become portable spectrum analyzers using the ERA desktop app, thereby reducing the the amount of clunky equipment that needs to be carried while improving the overall experience. Furthermore, signals can be monitored in real-time and recorded (video or Raw RF data) for post processing. This integration system supports Linux OS. All of the Sidekiq radio cards can be configured over a PCIe interface and offer an easy addition to many off-the-shelf computing devices and RF systems.
