Identiv, a global digital security and identification leader in the Internet of Things (IoT), continues to expand production capacity at its radio-frequency identification (RFID) production facility near Bangkok, Thailand, with the installation of new primary-process equipment. The most recent addition is Direct Die Attach (DDA) equipment optimized for high-volume production.
With this additional equipment, Identiv’s production capacity has increased by up to 30,000 units per hour. Through the combination of its DDA equipment and a Mühlbauer TAL 15000 system currently in operation at the facility, Identiv anticipates its annual production capacity in Thailand to expand from approximately 70 million units currently to over 200 million units by 2023.
This capacity increase in Thailand complements the technology and flexibility at Identiv’s Singapore production and engineering center and the R&D and specialty technology design, development, and prototyping capabilities at its engineering center outside Munich, Germany.
“This technology and capacity expansion in Thailand represents the third pillar of our technology and production strategy,” noted Steven Humphreys, CEO, Identiv. “Combined with our flexible, diverse-technology production in Singapore and our cutting-edge design and research center in Germany, we believe we now offer the industry’s most optimized platform to develop, integrate, optimize, and scale up technically advanced, specialty RFID-based IoT devices. Establishing and scaling up this facility in less than 8 months reflects the speed of execution and technical depth of our engineering and production teams.”
With a growing list of IoT customers, Identiv expects to produce an increasing proportion of its IoT devices in Thailand, benefiting from lower production and labor rates, shorter supply chains, and an advantageous tax status.
Dr. Manfred Mueller, COO, Identiv, added: “This capacity and technology addition to our Thailand facility significantly expands our current RFID production capacity and increases our cost competitiveness, enabling us to respond fast to growing demand for IoT solutions while simultaneously reducing production costs. We remain on track to reach full-scale production at our Thailand facility next year.”
