JFW Industries Introduces 4-Channel USB Solid-State Programmable Attenuator from 200 to 6000 MHz

JFW Industries Introduces 4-Channel USB Solid-State Programmable Attenuator from 200 to 6000 MHz

JFW Industries has introduced a new 50 Ohm 4-channel solid-state USB attenuator to help automate the customer’s RF testing operations. The JFW model 50P-2089 SMA operates from 200 to 6000 MHz and provides an attenuation range from 0 to 95 dB in 1 dB steps. All the four channels of this attenuator can be individually controlled via the interface provided and JFW has included separate test software along with the USB attenuator to facilitate seamless RF testing.

This USB attenuator has an insertion loss of less than 8.3 dB and a VSWR of up to 2:1. It requires a positive DC supply of 5 V and consumes 400 mA of current. This attenuator is enclosed in a module and has SMA (female) connectors for RF ports.

Key Features of the USB Test Software

  • Test software manual available for download.
  • Auto-discovery of any JFW USB attenuators connected to the computer.
  • Control attenuator(s) using a slider bar, increment buttons, or manually entering the attenuation value.
  • Set persistent device names for better organization of complex test scenarios.
  • Create test scripts that can control many attenuators.
  • Fade and Handover commands can be executed in Sequential or Synchronous mode.
  • Saving and Loading of scripts in JSON format.
  • Requires Microsoft Windows Vista or greater.
  • Requires Dot Net Framework 4.0 or greater.

Python Library Available

If customers would prefer to control the USB attenuators using Python instead of JFW’s standard Windows-based test program, the company does offer a Python library (jfwusb.py). Customers should make a request to receive these libraries.

Key Features Provided by the Python Library

  • Auto-discovery of any JFW USB devices connected to the computer.
  • Set persistent device names for each attenuator.
  • Set/read attenuator by its device number.
  • Set/read attenuator by its serial number.
  • Set/read attenuator by its user defined name.
  • Set all attenuators to the same dB value, min dB value, or max dB value.
