At the heart of innovations is the ability to make precise power measurements across various communication and control systems. To support the innovations, Anritsu has developed MA24103A, a new inline peak power sensor to enable modern railway applications with greater precision and reliability. From monitoring train movements to ensuring clear communication, the MA24103A is designed to support the evolving needs of modern railways.
The MA24103A from Anritsu is an Inline Power Sensor with a frequency range from 25 MHz to 1 GHz. It is designed to take accurate average power measurements of CW and multi-tone signals from 2 mW to 150 W. This power sensor has a "dual path" architecture that enables True-RMS measurements over the entire frequency and dynamic range allowing users to measure CW, multi-tone, and digitally modulated signals. The forward direction path has a 4 MHz channel bandwidth with peak and comparator/integrator circuits that add measurement functions such as PEP power, crest factor, CCDF, and burst average power. The reverse direction power measurement capabilities include reverse power, reflection coefficient, return loss, and SWR.
Advantages of using the MA24103A in Railroad Applications
- Positive Train Control (PTC): Operating around 220 MHz (Frequency range - 25 MHz to 1 GHz), PTC systems are designed to automatically control train movements, enhancing safety by continuously monitoring speed, location, and other critical parameters. The MA24103A enables accurate Peak Envelope Power (PEP) measurements at various duty cycles, ensuring PTC systems perform at their best.
- End-of-Train Devices (EOTDs): Operating at 450 MHz, these crucial safety devices monitor brake systems, train positioning, and more. The MA24103A’s high power handling (up to +51.7 dBm) and True-RMS measurements up to 150 W (Peak power - 300 W) ensure precise power monitoring for EOT signals.
- FM Voice Bases: Communication is key. Operating at 160 MHz, FM voice bases facilitate essential communication among train crew members, attendants, and passengers. With the MA24103A, you get dependable, accurate measurements to keep communication lines clear and reliable.
- Automated-Train-Control-Systems (ATCS): Operating between 896 MHz and 935 MHz, ATCS systems require precision monitoring for optimal performance. The MA24103A seamlessly integrates with these systems, enhancing operational control and safety.
Additionally, Anritsu has provided the ability to control the power sensor via USB on a PC with Anritsu PowerXpert™ Software. The sensor is also compatible with Anritsu Handheld Products (Option 19) for versatile integration.
