Computer Simulation Technology (CST) has announced the newest release of CST STUDIO SUITE – Student Edition, a special free version of its flagship electromagnetic simulation package especially for students. This release adds a low-frequency solver especially suitable for learning about eddy currents.
This CST STUDIO SUITE – Student Edition contains the versatile time domain, frequency domain and static and thermal solvers, and is supported by a set of online examples showing how classic textbook problems can be solved with simulation. This software can be incorporated into the coursework for a class, but the online examples mean that it can also be used by individual students for independent extracurricular learning at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
New in the 2016 release, the low-frequency frequency domain (LF-FD) solver is especially suitable for simulating eddy current effects in devices such as sensors, actuators and transformers. There will be a worked out tutorial for calculating eddy currents on a copper disc, which students can simulate themselves and then easily compare with textbook or laboratory results.
For more demanding educational applications that go beyond what can be done in the CST STUDIO SUITE – Student Edition, universities can get discounted classroom and educational licenses for this software.
“Providing students with free access to leading edge EM simulation technology was the motivation behind the first version of CST STUDIO SUITE – Student Edition in 2015. We’ve seen great interest from around the world, and we want to strengthen our engagement with academia further,” said Martin Timm, Director Global Marketing, CST. “We have therefore included the low-frequency frequency domain solver to further expand the areas of study and make exploring electromagnetism easier than ever.”
CST STUDIO SUITE – Student Edition is now available for download, or can be collected on DVD at the CST booth, #739 at IMS 2016 in San Francisco.
