GVD Corporation Introduces Highly Reliable Environmental Coating for Microwave Electronics

GVD Corporation, an MIT technology-inspired polymer coating company, has announced that it’ll be a part of the 5G/IoT Pavilion of the International Microwave Symposium being held in Honolulu, Hawaii from June 6 - 8. At the event they will be unveiling their highly reliable environmental coating for microwave electronics which eliminates the need for hermetic packaging.

Meeting military standards for harsh environmental exposure, shock, and vibration testing, the innovative polymer coating is applied by GVD through a dry, room-temperature vapor deposition process that gently encapsulates boards and/or components in a micron-thin polymer. The vapor deposition process is both conformal and uniform, ensuring effective coverage of a populated circuit board or the bare surface of a die, protecting products from moisture and debris in the environment.

The coating’s low dielectric constant and low thickness have been demonstrated to have negligible impact on signal integrity when applied directly to the surface of Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMICs) operating in Ku, Ka, and W bands. The coating’s high thermal stability also makes it compatible with hot-running semiconductor technologies, such as gallium nitride (GaN) components.
