PCTEL has announced that its IBflex scanning receiver now supports testing of private LTE networks on non-3GPP bands. LTE’s high throughput, low latency, and reliability make it an extremely attractive solution for Industrial IoT applications such as CCTV, smart trains, and advanced metering infrastructure. As a result, railroads, factories, and utilities want to deploy private LTE networks on spectrum they already own. Currently, the telecommunications industry’s 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) has only defined a limited number of standard LTE bands. This lack of definition means that standard test equipment cannot be used to test many private LTE networks. To facilitate private LTE network deployments worldwide, the IBflex now allows users to configure their own LTE bands anywhere within its 10 MHz to 6 GHz range.
Private LTE networks are ideally suited for process automation and video monitoring, but proper network testing is essential to ensure system reliability. The IBflex provides precise real-world LTE coverage and quality data that can be used to design, deploy, optimize, and monitor private networks. Public network operators can also use the IBflex’s user-configurable LTE bands to conduct trials on newly available spectrum, before the 3GPP has defined bands.
