Subminiature RF Coaxial Connector Provides Higher Performance Up to 100 GHz

Leveraging its vast knowledge in micro-machining, high-performance design and measurement capabilities, Radiall, has released a new G3PO compatible connector that operates from DC to 100 GHz with an exceptionally low VSWR as well as a host of robust improvements to satisfy market demands.

The telecommunications and defense markets are requiring smaller interfaces that are lightweight, robust and capable of higher frequencies/data rates. The SMPW connector fulfills these demands by providing a small form factor interface with excellent performance. In order to achieve this higher reliability and stable performance with the SMPW connector, the company has perfected the design, manufacturability and measurement by utilizing controlled atmospheric rooms, dedicated to controlled micro-machining and plating processes.

The SMPW architecture provides blind-mateable integration, and it can be utilized as Board-to-Board, board-to-module, multi-port or in cable assembly configurations. SMPW provides exceptional VSWR with a frequency range from DC to 100 GHz. Radial misalignments is guaranteed up to 2.2° and axial misalignment up to 0.3 mm max. It is available in multiple configurations, including but not limited to cable connectors, edge mount, surface mount, bullet/adapters, multi-port and customized models. The SMPW meets high-frequency requirements in a micro-miniature product, improving robustness and providing high-density integration.

SMPW has a push-on coupling and offers 2 standard detents:

  • Full detent: used when retention forces need to be high
  • Smooth bore: mainly used for blind-mate applications

Key Features of the SMPW Connector:

  • Micro miniature: Ø1.59
  • Frequency DC~100 GHz
  • Low VSWR: 1.02 up to 67 GHz
  • Axial misalignment: 0.3 mm
  • Radial misalignment: 2.2

Applications include use in Electronic warfare, Radar, Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) modules, Array combiners, Modulator links, Microwave Kinetic Inductance Detector (MKID).
