Nordic Semiconductor has signed a distributor agreement with China-based embedded systems and machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions expert, Lierda Science & Technology Group Co Ltd. Under the agreement, Lierda will be responsible for the distribution and design support for Nordic’s Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), ANT+, IEEE 802.15.4, and 2.4 GHz proprietary ultra low power (ULP) wireless connectivity solutions to makers, start-ups, and established OEMs across the countries China, Hong Kong and Macau.
The company will supply Nordic’s complete range of ULP wireless connectivity hardware, firmware, development tools, and reference designs, including the high-end nRF52840 System-on-Chip (SoC)—an advanced multiprotocol device supporting Bluetooth 5, ANT, IEEE 802.15.4, and 2.4 GHz proprietary technologies—as well as the nRF52811 SoC, a new, fully-featured connectivity solution that supports Bluetooth 5.1 Direction Finding and a range of popular low power wireless protocols for applications such as gateways for smart home and industry products.
According to Wendell Boyd, Nordic Semiconductor’s Director of Sales and Marketing – APAC, Lierda perfectly complements Nordic’s existing distribution arrangements in China. It is geographically well situated in Hangzhou to focus on a potential new customer base in north and central China, as well offering a very design-focused approach to support local developers. This profile, according to Wendell, matches Nordic’s desire to make its low power wireless connectivity solutions available to the widest possible audience.
Nordic believes there is a huge opportunity in China in building technology, automation, and smart home solutions, and this is not only strength for Lierda, but a key market for Nordic. They thus anticipate a highly successful partnership.
