Innovative technology solutions expert, Blue innovation, has announced a partnership with leading electronics manufacturer, Kyocera, to develop drone-based high speed mobile networks for disaster sites and other areas. The new drone communications technology is being displayed at the Blue innovation booth during CES 2020 in Las Vegas.
By flying multiple drones with mobile relay station functions in areas where mobile phone signals do not reach, such as disaster sites, the “moving communication relay station system” enables reliable mobile phone communication as if under normal circumstances. By combining Blue innovation’s system platform technology such as Blue Earth Platform, which enables remote control of several drones, with Kyocera’s wireless communication technology developed through its communication equipment business, the companies will develop a moving drone-enabled communication relay station.
Blue Earth Platform (BEP)
Blue Earth Platform (BEP) is a mission-based platform jointly developed by Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International (ATR) and Blue innovation that manages multiple robots or drones cooperatively and simultaneously to accomplish complicated work missions. On the basis of the concepts of the UNR Platform developed by Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International (ATR), BEP enables its users to complete their work missions in a smart way, via automatic control of multiple drones and robots realized by integration and management of custom map data, object position data, and object attribute data.
Partnership Agreement
Under the partnership agreement signed by the companies, Blue innovation would be responsible for the development of the Blue Earth Platform and establishment of front-end system. Kyocera, on the other hand will be developing cellular communication units to be equipped with moving drone communication relay station to establish LTE and 5G networks.
Samples of these devices are on display at the Blue innovation booth (LVCC, South Hall 2 Booth #26820) during CES 2020. The companies will begin field testing under LTE and 5G networks, aiming toward commercialization by March 2022 in accordance with legislative amendments.
