The MD8475B from Anritsu is a Base Station Simulator (Signalling Tester) that supports VoLTE and call-processing tests for multimode LTE smartphones and eCall/ERA-GLONASS automobile emergency response systems. The simulator consists of an RF front-end module with 8 Tx and 4 Rx ports and has an in-built traffic generator. It supports LTE (2x2 MIMO, 4x4 MIMO), LTE-Advanced (2CA, 3CA, 4CA, 5CA), W-CDMA/HSPA/HSPA Evolution/DC-HSDPA, GSM/GPRS/EGPRS, and TD-SCDMA/TD-HSPA cellular standards. The simulator provides an LTE data throughput of 2 Gbps (downlink) and 150 Mbps (uplink).
The MD8475B can be configured using GUI-based SmartStudio MX847570B software which supports generic mobile tests such as throughput performance test, stress test, battery consumption test of LTE terminals, CS Fallback test, call connection reliability and stability test at handover, communication test at low RF power, and offloading from LTE to WLAN test.
The Simulator verifies correct mobile handover by changing settings between neighbouring base stations. It simulates emergency notifications, such as earthquake early warning, which are hard to test on live networks. The simulator tests both basic mobile calls and Voice over LTE (VoLTE) calls and simulates various usage environments for measuring battery life. It evaluates throughput by changing base station settings and simulates a built-in SIP server. The simulator tests the policy server and dedicated gateway for distributing traffic over a WLAN.
The MD8475B can evaluate the in-vehicle system (IVS) supporting South Korean eCall over LTE (uses NG-eCall standard).
