The F6513 from Renesas is an 8-Channel Tx Active Beamforming IC that operates from 13.75 to 17.3 GHz. It provides a small signal gain of 23 dB and has an output P1dB of 12.5 dBm. This beamforming IC has eight independently controlled output channels that support eight single-polarized elements or four dual-polarized elements of an electronically scanned array (ESA). Each channel has 6 bits of digital phase control covering 360° and a 25 dB gain control with a minimum step size of 0.2 dB that enables precise beam pattern and polarization control.
The F6513 has advanced digital modes and large on-chip memory that enables beam position switching times of less than 100 ns at the array level which greatly reduces dead time and latency. It has a temperature sensor with digital readout, on-chip beam-state memory and features a low power standby mode to increase power efficiency. It requires a DC supply of 2.3 V and can be controlled via standard 1.8 V digital logic and SPI bus interfaces.
The F6513 is available in a compact and CTE-matched FC-BGA organic package that measures 3.8 x 4.6 x 0.9 mm and is ideal for use in phased array antennas, Ku-band SATCOM terminals, Common Data Link (CDL) terminals, Ku-band radar, instrumentation, aerospace, and maritime applications.
