The BMCU95 from Bonn Hungary Electronics is a Block Upconverter (BUC) that converts input frequencies from 950 – 1150 MHz to an output frequency from 14.6 – 14.8 GHz. It includes a single conversion upconverter stage with appropriate filtering, a low-phase noise local oscillator, a microprocessor-based monitor and control circuitry, and a power supply. This single-channel BUC provides a conversion gain of 20 dB with a gain adjustment range of 25 dB in 0.5 dB steps and has an output P1dB of 15 dBm. It includes a 13.65 GHz fixed local oscillator with a frequency stability of ±0.05 ppm and a phase noise of -115 dBc/Hz (@1 MHz offset). It requires a DC supply of 12 V, consumes 0.6 A of current, and features surge protection and reverses polarity protection.
The BMCU95 can be controlled via RS422/RS485 or TCP/IP-based remote monitoring and control over Ethernet. It allows monitoring of input level, reference source, reference PLL status, main PLL status, DC supply voltage, DC supply current, and temperature. This converter has an LO leakage (at RF input and output) of less than -80 dBm and provides an image rejection of better than 80 dB. It has spurious emissions of -65 dBc and harmonics of better than -40 dBc. The BUC is available in an indoor IP50-rated enclosure that measures 112 x 166 x 35 mm with N-type (female) connectors and is suitable for use in professional applications in Ku-band such as satellite earth stations.
