The RYZ024A from Renesas is an LTE Cat M1/NB1/NB2 Cellular IoT Module for worldwide deployment. It is based on Renesas’ second-generation Sequans chip platform with a Single-SKU™ RF front end and an integrated EAL5+ Secure Element (SE) capable of hosting the SIM inside the module for high security. This module has been developed according to 3GPP Release 14 with an option to be upgraded to Release 15. It can be directly connected to the internet without the need for a gateway making it economical for installing larger networks that require a low cost per unit. This module supports a data rate of 1.1 Mbps (UL) and 0.3 Mbps (DL).
The RYZ024A can be controlled using external MCUs and other control units via I2C, USIM, UART, JTAG, GPIO, SPI, SIM0/SIM1 interfaces and offers support for integrated UICC (iUICC). It provides a carrier-proven LTE Cat-M1 protocol stack and a comprehensive software infrastructure. This IoT module allows users to upgrade the firmware fully or differentially via UART interfaces. It requires a DC supply from 2.5 V to 5.5 V and consumes 1 µA of current in power-savings mode. It is available in a Land Grid Array (LGA) package that measures 16.3 x 17.0 x 1.85 mm and is ideal for smart city, asset trackers, utility meters, industrial sensors, health and fitness appliances, and wearable applications.
