The LEXI-R520 from u-blox is an LTE-M/NB-IoT Module that supports 3GPP Release 13, 14 (partial) and 15 (partial) for LTE Cat M1/NB2. It is based on the u-blox UBX-R52 cellular chipset and supports SpotNow, a location information positioning feature running directly on the chipset which removes the need for a dedicated internal or external GNSS receiver. SpotNow is based on an Assisted GPS receiver solution which is power-optimized for occasional tracking use cases. This module also supports AssistNow and CellLocate, a u-blox location service that estimates position via LTE cell station signaling data and also eliminates the need for a dedicated GNSS antenna. It is compatible with u-blox's MQTT Anywhere and MQTT Flex communication services which reduces data overhead, time spent on the air, and energy consumption.
The LEXI-R520 can perform antenna dynamic tuning, last gasp, jamming detection and antenna/SIM detection functions. It delivers a downlink data rate of 375 kb/s (Cat M1 half-duplex) and an uplink data rate of 1200 kb/s (Cat M1 half-duplex). This module delivers a Tx output power of 23 dBm ensuring robust connections and preventing data retransmission effects at cell edges. It requires a DC supply of 3.8 V and consumes 195 mA (LTE Cat M1) and 135 mA (LTE Cat NB2) of current. This module can be controlled via 8-wire UART, DDC (I2C), USB, GPIo and (U)SIM interfaces.
The LEXI-R520 is available in a 133-pin LGA package that measures 16.0 x 16.0 x 2.0 mm and is ideal for size-constrained devices like personal/pet trackers, telematics, industrial automation & monitoring, smart city, smart buildings, payments, micromobility, and connected healthcare applications.
