The HMC6789BLC5A from Analog Devices is a compact GaAs MMIC I/Q downconverter chip. It accepts an input RF frequency of 37 GHz to 44 GHz and downconverts it to an IF frequency of DC to 4 GHz. The downconverter provides a small signal conversion gain of 14 dB with 25 dBc of image rejection across the frequency band and has a noise figure of 3.5 dB.
It utilizes a low noise amplifier to drive the I/Q mixer where the LO is driven by a x2 multiplier. IF1 and IF2 mixer inputs are provided and an external 90° hybrid is needed to select the required sideband. It is available in a 12-terminal, RoHS compliant, ceramic leadless chip carrier (LCC) package that measures 5 x 5 mm and is ideal for sensors, satellites communications, military radar, point-to-point and point-to-multi-point radios.
