The SM6220 from KRATOS is a Fast Indirect Microwave Synthesizer that operates from 2 to 20 GHz. It provides an output power of 10 dBm with an SSB phase noise of -96 dBc/Hz (at 1 MHz offset) and has an accuracy of ±2 ppm. This synthesizer employs an 18-bit frequency control with a frequency step size of 100 kHz and has a settling time of less than 1 µsec. It has spurious levels of better than -54 dBc and harmonics of less than -30 dBc. The synthesizer incorporates a unique modulation function using which the signal generator modulates the signal over a bandwidth of 80 MHz and based on other parameters set by the designer. It also allows more flexibility with support for complex modulation schemes and frequency-locking capabilities when modulating the signal.
The SM6220 requires DC supplies from -12 to -15 V and +12 to +15 V and consumes less than 3.3 A of current. It is available in a module that measures 6.48 x 6.23 x 1.24 inches and is ideal for test and measurement, airborne, and military applications.
