The SSPA 8.025-8.500-4 from Aethercomm is a Solid-State Power Amplifier that operates from 8025 to 8500 MHz. It provides a saturated output power of 4 W with a small signal gain of 50 dB. This SSPA is based on GaN technology and is designed for use in LEO satellites with an in-built command/control and telemetry unit. It includes a PA Enable Command that is used to gate the PA ON and OFF and has an ON/OFF switching time of less than 10 µs. This amplifier requires a DC supply of 28 V and features an internal EPC with an efficiency of 96% to filter, regulate and pass required voltages within the SSPA. The EPC has been tested for EMI against MIL-STD-461 and passed all CE, RE and RS requirements.
The SSPA 8.025-8.500-4 includes an RS422 LVDS digital interface. It is available in a rugged module that measures 5.1 x 5.1 x 2.0 inches with SMA-female input connector and TNC-female output connector. This SSPA is designed for use in high shock, vibration and acceleration environments and it has been launched in space and it fully survives all flight dynamic requirements.
