The dB-3901 from dB Control is a Power-Combined Travelling Wave Tube Amplifier (TWTA) that operates from 2 to 4 GHz. It delivers a pulsed output power of 10 kW with a gain of more than 70 dB and a maximum duty cycle of 6% (pulse width 60 µs max.). This amplifier connects two wideband, periodic permanent magnet (PPM)-focused TWTs to amplify CW, AM, FM, or pulse-modulated signals. It utilizes proprietary transformer fabrication, encapsulation, and high-voltage potting techniques that have been developed specifically for demanding military applications. This TWTA has spurious levels of -50 dBc and harmonics of -10 dBc.
The dB-3901 minimizes losses that occur during power combining by carefully matching the TWTs and other RF components in amplitude and phase over the entire frequency range. It uses a modular architecture for the power supply unit and a low-noise power supply topology using high-efficiency solid-state power-conversion circuits. This amplifier includes a front panel digital display and optional RS232/RS422/RS485/Ethernet interfaces for local or remote control. It provides complete protection for the TWT and power supply against excessive currents, high VSWR, over temperature, and over/under voltage.
This TWTA is available in an enclosure that measures 18 x 28 x 36 inches with N-type (female) connectors for input and WRD-200 waveguide flange output interface. It is ideal for electronic warfare simulation, electronic countermeasures (ECM), RFI/EMI/EMC testing, antenna pattern, and radar cross-section measurements, and test & measurement applications. The amplifier requires a 3-phase AC supply of 208 V and consumes less than 5 kVA of power.
